If you are a commercial property owner who wants to invest a significant amount of money on a painting job, it helps to know what commercial painting consists of and what to expect. This includes knowing the tasks, duties, and responsibilities of a commercial painting company East Bay.

In order to become a professional commercial painter not just in East Bay but in the entire state of California, one must obtain a license. The painter must be at least 18 years old and have the skills and experience necessary to manage the day-to-day activities of commercial painting (which may include field supervision). The other qualifying factor is to be represented by a qualifying individual who has the necessary skills and experience.

Those aspiring to become commercial painting contractors must have at least a high school diploma and undergo on-the-job training or apprenticeship before applying for a license. Then they may inquire to the Contractors State License Board to get more information about securing a contractor's license. There are fees involved, so hopefuls should prepare for them, too.

Being a licensed commercial painting contractor enables painters to work for construction companies or building management firms. Commercial painting contractors paint a variety of structures like residential and commercial properties, government buildings, as well as public works such as bridges.

Commercial painters deal with both the interiors and exteriors of a commercial or a residential property. Obviously, it is not just stepping on the ladder and applying paint on the walls. They are responsible for mixing, matching, and applying paint on a variety of surfaces and finishing touch-ups. They also coordinate with the other departments especially when they deal with larger painting projects.

The following lists the other primary tasks of commercial painters:

• Apply a topcoat on a variety of surfaces which include walls, ceilings, floor, doors, trim, and cabinets.
• Apply a topcoat on a variety of surface types which include wood, metal, stone, PVC, fiberglass, concrete, bricks, and many others.
• Determine and estimate the cost of paints and other materials needed for the job.
• Cover surfaces with drop cloths to protect them from dripping or splattered paint.
• Move larger furniture pieces (when possible) to the center of the room or removing them entirely before painting.
• Remove drapes, décor, and fixtures (such as doorknobs and lighting) before painting.
• Clean surfaces to ensure the adherence of the topcoat.
• Fill cracks, gaps, nail holes, and other surface flaws as well as joints with caulk or spackling compound. Sand the corrections so the surface is smooth.
• Tape off areas that should not be painted.
• Set up ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts, and all types of staging and rigging to gain access to higher areas of the structure, as well as to transport larger tools or equipment.
• Scrape peeling old paint, sand the surfaces, and apply primer or sealant to the surfaces before painting.
• Buy high-quality paints, primers, and other finishes such as enamel, shellac and varnishes.
• Buy high-quality quality tools (brushes, paint sprays, cleaning materials, etc.).
• Negotiate prices.
• Apply paints according to label instructions.
• Clean up after painting.
• Replace any items moved or removed from the area being painted.
• Dispose of wastes in a proper, ethical, and environmentally safe manner.

Aside from the primary tasks, commercial painting company East Bay are also deal with general administrative, managerial, and marketing duties such as providing safety training to all their employees, preparing contracts and warranties. They promote their business through setting up websites and social media accounts or contacting companies and potential clients with details of their services.
