Tips for Painting the Ceiling While House Painting in San RamonThe ceiling is perhaps the most difficult part when house painting in San Ramon. Besides being strenuous, painting the ceiling is most prone to dripping especially if you're not being careful in applying paint. Plus, some serious accidents may happen if you're not experienced with this type of painting.

It's little wonder that painters -- professionals or DIY-er's alike -- dislike painting the ceiling the most, but someone's got to do it especially if the ceiling screams for re-painting. Here is some great ceiling painting tips for you to consider:

1. Drips are always unavoidable when painting the ceiling. Even the most meticulous professional painters experience paint dripping when dealing with the ceiling. It is important to take away all furniture (as possible) and cover your floor with drop cloths. If the furniture cannot be moved, cover them with drop cloths as well.

2. Your untextured ceiling may have accumulated bumps or dirt as paint may have built up on the surface over time. To address this, give a quick sanding on the surface using a drywall sanding pole. This will smoothen the ceiling as well as to enable easier bonding of paint.

3. If your ceiling has ugly stains from roof leaks or smoke, covering these flaws with an ordinary paint will not suffice. Instead, you'll need to get a stain-blocking primer -- it is effective in blocking unsightly yellowish stains on your ceiling and preventing them from showing through the topcoat. A white pigmented shellac primer is an ideal choice. Although these primers are available in spray-paint cans, brushing is a much easier way to apply them.

4. Cut in first before you start rolling. Using a brush, begin by painting along the edges and the corners to create a border. This will allow you to cover the brush marks from the roller. Cut the entire space at once -- this will save you from the boring task of alternately cutting in and rolling. Plus, the borders will remain wet until you start rolling.

5. When actually painting the ceiling, it's easiest and quickest if you use a roller. Start by rolling in one direction, and roll towards the other side of the room, in parallel lines. Move quickly and continuously in order to cover the still-wet edges of the previous line. This will also help you to avoid lap marks and to ensure the even coating of paint.

6. Although white is the default color for ceilings, you may think of painting it with another color. The best idea is to choose a shade that is lighter or darker than the colors of the wall. As a general rule, a ceiling that's lighter than the walls gives an illusion of height and expansiveness. However, you may also consider painting a shade that's darker than the color of your walls. But "dark" doesn't mean claustrophobic; it may even evoke of a cozier ambiance especially if you paint inside a big room.

Flat paints are the best paint finish for the ceiling. Paints with a glossy finish (like satin or eggshell) are ideal for the ceiling, especially when using a darker color.

The ceiling is perhaps the most challenging part of house painting in San Ramon. But if you follow the proper procedures -- or maybe hire a professional contractor such as Custom Painting, Inc. -- they will ensure you of a ceiling that looks smooth, even, and brand-new once again.
