House Painting Pleasant Hill – Repainting Weather Affected AreasThe exterior surfaces of your home have undoubtedly taken a lot of beating -- there are the sunlight, rain, wind and fallen debris like branches from the trees. Since the siding provides protection for your home, you want to maintain it in many ways, including house painting in Pleasant Hill.

If your home's exterior is weather-beaten in particular, it's extremely important to keep it in top condition. This is done simply by repainting it.

Flaking, peeling, or loose paint:
1. If the siding suffers lots of flaking or peeling paint, scrape it with a scraper or a wire brush.
2. Next, sand the surface to make sure it is smooth and dry.
2. It is recommended that you prime the surface. Priming ensures the topcoat's complete adhesion to the surface, making the finish look good and smooth.

Blistering:
1. Blistering paint can be caused by a variety of factors. It may be that you painted the surface under direct sunlight, or you painted on the surface that wasn't properly dried (you painted on a rainy or muggy day). If you suspect that moisture is the culprit of blistering paint, first check out what is the source of the moisture.
2. Scrape off the blistering paint with a scraper or wire brush.
3. Smoothen the surface by sanding.
4. Repaint the surface with a good quality paint.

Fading paint
1. Fading paint can be caused by too much exposure to sunlight and pollution. Apart from the weather elements, abrasive cleaning and caustic chemicals may also contribute to this problem.
2. The best way to fix this problem is to repaint the faded surface with good quality paints as they are more durable and thus longer-lasting than cheaper, inferior paints.
3. If you live in hot, arid areas, it is wise to pick inorganic colors (whites, beiges, browns) as they are less likely to fade as quickly as organic colors (red, blue, green, yellow).

Efflorescence on exterior brick and masonry
1. The white, powdery substance that emerges on the surface of bricks and masonry is called efflorescence. The substance is actually natural salts which get trapped inside the masonry until they are dissolved. When they're dissolved by water, the salts come out of the surface through the tiny pores. The water may come from weather elements such as rain, although household leaks and sprinklers may also cause efflorescence.
2. Remove these salts by using a steel brush, power brush, or a power washer.
3. Rinse the surface thoroughly.
4. Apply a good quality masonry sealer, either water-based or solvent. Let it dry completely.
5. Finally, paint the surface. Regular paint is okay, but it's much better if you use a paint specifically formulated for masonry, or use an elastomeric paint.

House painting in Pleasant Hill can resolve several issues such as surface problems as a result of weather factors, as long as you do proper prep work on the surface. Remember that proper preparation is still the key to a good paint finish, so whether you're painting or re-painting, never skip that part!
