Should You Ask Painters in Danville to Use Non-VOC Paints?

If you want to have your home or business painted, should you ask painters in Danville to use non-VOC paints? Home and business owners are beginning to understand the importance of indoor air quality. Using lower-emission paint can help improve the air quality and positively affect the health of those who spend time in the building.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that there is at least three times more air pollution inside a building than in the outdoors. Much of this pollution comes from paints and finishes. Paints and finishes release low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which can affect the air quality in a building for years. Today low- or no-VOC paints are available due in part to new environmental regulations and the demands of consumers.

Any painter in Danville or the surrounding area should be willing use this type of paint if they do not already use them. There are many benefits associated with using non-VOC paints, not only for the owner, but also for the painter.

  • Reduced toxins are particularly important for those with allergies or chemical sensitivities, but they will benefit everyone.
  • Reduced toxins are good for the environment. These toxins will stay out of landfills and groundwater when cleaned up or disposing of the paint can.
  • They perform equally as well as paints containing VOCs. They are durable, stand up to scrubbing and cover the flaws in previous coats as paints with VOCs.
  • They are water-based which means clean up is a breeze. A little soap and warm water is all you need.
  • There are little to no hazardous fumes. This means you can occupy your rooms sooner than if you used paints containing VOCs. There is also no off gassing.
  • Since the EPA does not consider non-VOC paints to be hazardous waste, disposing of the paint cans is simple.

You can choose from the following non-toxic paints:

Natural paints are made from natural materials. This could be plant oils, mineral dyes, bee’s wax, clay, chalk or other natural ingredients. These are the healthiest paints to choose for your own health as well as that of the environment.

Zero VOC paints will contain less than 5 grams or less VOC. Adding a color to Zero VOC paints will bring the VOC level up to 10, which is still low but not considered Zero VOC any longer.

Low VOC paints use water as a carrier instead of petroleum-based solvents. They do not contain formaldehyde or heavy metals. Low VOC, according to the EPA, must not contain VOCs in excess of 200 grams per liter.

If you care about your family, home and the environment, consider Non-VOC or low VOC paints. Ask painters in Danville to use non-VOC paints in your home. If the painting contractor will not use the paint you request, you know to look for another painter.
